NEA Research

NEA Research

Learning Objectives:
  • K: What the minimum requirements for the preparatory tasks.
  • U: The relevance of each of these tasks.
  • BAT: Undertake preparatory work as prescribed below.
  • CO: Use media terminology throughout verbal and written communication.

-------------------

Individually.
Look through the tasks below... these are the minimum requirements to demonstrate an effective Research trail.

Each of these tasks need to be laid out as a separate post...

Which one will you do first????

Dont worry about doing them in order, the important thing is that you do all of them as separate posts... you can re-arrange them later on to make them chronological.

---------------------

NOTE:
You must write a short introduction before embedding or pasting a link in it.
THEN
You must write a short conclusion on each post to summarise what youve learnt from each research.

----------------------

Post 1   How is media language used in 2 media products to create meaning through constructing representations and following genre conventions?

The best way to answer this is by looking at the representations first, then look at how media language is used to create them...

  • What type of shot/music are they using?
  • What connotations do the colours they use have?
  • What does the set represent the time and place of the situation?
  • What does the make-up and hair used say about the characters/models?
  • What does the body language say about the attitudes of the characters/models used?
  • What connotations can the type of lighting used in the shot/scenes have? How does it help create representation?

Instructions:

If you chose to do Brief 1:
Choose ONE front cover and ONE double spread article from a music magazine.  E.g. One front cover for Q Magazine and one double spread page article from NME.

If you chose to do Brief 2:
Choose TWO short scenes from TWO different soap operas. E.g. One scene from Hollyoaks (aimed at teens) and ONE scene from Eastenders... make sure these scenes show different representations of people in terms of age, gender, nationality/race, different representations of places and events/situations.

If you chose to do Brief 3:
Choose TWO rock music videos that represent the artist in TWO different ways.  One music video needs to follow a narrative (storyline) and the other one needs to be a montage of performance and narrative (narrative). E.g. Bon Jovi - Its My Life (Performance and Narrative), The All American Rejects - Gives You Hell (Narrative Video).

If you chose to do Brief 4:
Choose TWO home pages of TWO different charities and look at how their elements are used to create representation... Are there differences?  Are there similarities? E.g. Water Aid and Cancer Research.

You should be prepared to analyse the distinctive media language elements appropriate to the brief chosen, listed below:

Moving image (music video):

Camerawork
